Emergency Dentistry
If you are in discomfort we will try to get you comfortable the same day. Severe infection or toothache are the most common dental emergencies, however traumatic injuries would also fall under this category.
Cleaning and Exam
Our Hygienists will complete a thorough exam to evaluate the health of your gums. If your gums fall under the healthy range a fine scale and polishing of your teeth will be done. Some patients however, will be diagnosed with periodontal disease. Our patients that present with periodontal disease will most likely require multiple appointments to complete a deep cleaning of their teeth. Children are usually given a fluoride treatment at their cleaning appointment, and we always recommend sealants on newly erupted molars.
We conduct comprehensive exams on all our new patients as well as update our existing patients record at every cleaning appointment. Our exam consists of gathering all the information we can about the health of your teeth and gums. Radiographs (x-rays) are taken to evaluate the health of the bone surrounding your teeth as well as to look for decay in between your teeth. We also take films to examine your TMJ (jaw joint) as well as the surrounding boney anatomy of your face. Radiographs can help us find pathology that sometimes cannot be observed with just the clinical exam. For extensive treatment plans, we may require to fabricate diagnostic models of your teeth to help create the best treatment plan and the most long lasting.
Night Guards or Occlusal Splints
These removable dental appliances are fabricated for individuals who are damaging their TMJ or teeth due to excessive clenching or grinding of teeth. We will evaluate your teeth and bite during your comprehensive exam. Overworking your chewing muscles can contribute to spasm and headaches. An occlusal splint helps relax your muscles and protects your teeth.
Restorations
Root canals are completed using the latest technology at Carolina Family Dentistry. We treat teeth with root canals when decay has reached the pulp of the tooth. Years ago the only alternative would have been an extraction. Today we can preserve your tooth by conducting root canal therapy.
Fillings are placed in teeth to replace space created by tooth decay. We offer various types of filling materials and will utilize the best material for your personal situation, unless you have a particular request.
Crowns are restorations used to protect teeth that are structurally compromised due to root canal therapy or very large fillings. Root canalled teeth are dead teeth and thereof brittle, and large fillings means there is a minimal amount of your own tooth structure left. Crowns are placed on teeth to keep you from fracturing your teeth. Dr. Vargas will recommend crowns on teeth that look most susceptible to fracture. Crowns are also the treatment of choice if you present with cracked tooth syndrome.
Bridges and Implants are fixed treatment options for replacing missing teeth. A bridge requires teeth on either side of the space to fabricate. Implants usually don't rely on adjacent teeth to restore the space.
Partial Dentures are a removable solution to replacing missing spaces. It can sometimes be the most affordable way to replace teeth, especially if you have multiple spaces.
Full Dentures are fabricated for folks that need a complete set of teeth. Dentures give you back your smile and provides a wonderful tool for enjoying the foods you love.
Alignment Treatment
If you had braces and have had a minor relapse we may be able to help realign your teeth using various appliances. Ask Dr. Vargas if you are a good candidate.

Tooth whitening can give your teeth a "mini face lift". By lightening the shade of your teeth you can rejuvenate the appearance of your smile.

Laser Dentistry

Pediatric services
Our little patients get the royal treatment too. Pediatric patients receive fluoride treatments at every cleaning appointment. We provide sealants to protect newly erupted molars. We also provide treatment to preserve primary teeth until it is time for their exfoliation. Remember, baby teeth direct the permanent ones where to go, so we try to preserve them with restorations in order to preserve the needed space for the permanent dentition. We take radiographs on kids too. They help us find hidden decay as well as help us make sure all teeth are developing. By conducting our complete and careful exam, we can determine the need for orthodontics as well as plan for future restorations.
